Anthea Lycett, the current owner, has been part of the Borzoi for over 30 years. She became Manager fifteen years ago and then took over the business in 2011. Aloÿse spent so much time in the Borzoi that eventually they asked her if she would like a job! That was in 1990. She runs the Daylesford Bookclub, as well as choosing the cards for the shop.

History

The Borzoi Bookshop has been firmly established in the Cotswold market town of Stow-on-the-Wold since the late 1970s. We are often asked about the name. When Jenny and Travis Davison opened the shop in the late 1970s they lived upstairs in the premises in Church Street with their family and two Borzoi dogs. Dogs have always been part of this quirky shop. Anthea, the current owner, came to work with Bubbly, the terrier, and then Tike, the Staffie, joined the team. Now Brock, the Jack Russell terrier, is in charge of meeting and greeting. He certainly knows which customers have treats in their pockets and he has recently been the subject of an article in Bertrams Booktime magazine.

Jenny and Travis’ original concept was to have a core stock of timeless classic books intermingled with interesting new writing. We carry this on today always searching to source new books from small publishers that you wouldn’t find elsewhere. We enjoy chatting to our customers and finding out their preferences so that when we are ordering new publications we have them in mind.

On 1st April 2019 we moved to our new premises in Digbeth Street, starting a new chapter in the Borzoi story. We are thrilled with the new shop and our new look for the twenty first century. We hope that you will visit us soon.
